Teepakki has collected all kinds of kayaking and paddling related information on these pages. This was originally just about kayaking but soon it was discovered that the canoes could be included as well.

Why the language is mostly English? Well, it just feels better this way, and after all, it is the language of the Web, and thus much more commonly understood than Finnish.

Sea Kayaking

The long coastline and often very beautiful archipelago of Finland offers many good opportunities for not so rough sea kayaking, and camping on small islands. The number of sea kayakers is small but they are enthusiastic about their sport/hobby. The Helsinki region has a number of active clubs but there also several others along the Gulf of Finland. One of the most beautiful areas to paddle is located south of our former capital Turku, and it is called Saaristomeri - the archipelago sea. Another fine national park area is Tammisaaren kansallispuisto.

Lake Paddling

The thousands lakes (187 888 to be exact) and slow rivers of Finland are equally beautiful for the paddlers. Many of these are interconnected and form a labyrinth of waterways. The are many clubs in the Lake Finland.

A canoe is probably a more comfortable vehicle on lakes and slow rivers than a kayak which is on the other hand faster (and much more beautiful :).

Whitewater Paddling

The rivers in Finland are graded (classes I-V) so there is something for eveyone. The best rivers are in the Eastern and Northern Finland.
